Cloth Diapering, from a Dad’s point of view.

hubby & wife

I rarely ever take the time to write, or blog, or even e-mail for that matter, about anything let alone cloth diapering.  Clothing diapering is pretty amazing though, amazing enough that I’d take the time to write about it.  When my wife first told me she was pregnant I was ecstatic!  When my wife first told me she wanted to cloth diaper… I panicked.  I’m a bit stuck on the way things are for most people, and most people do not cloth diaper. A lot of the hesitation I had with cloth … [Read more...]

It is easy being green! My path to being green started with my research of cloth diapers.  Before my son was even born, I was loving getting the cute "fluffy mail", building my stash, and convincing my husband about cloth diapers. We used disposables and cloth in the very beginning while I recovered from my c-section.  I loved the softness of the cloth diapers, the feeling of saving money, and disliked the extra, stinky garbage, the crinkly paper feel of the disposables, and those little … [Read more...]

Once a week, our library has something called, “Books for Babies” where the children’s librarian reads our preschoolers books, sings nursery rhymes with them, and leads them in awesome toddler activities involving bells, drums, and/or little scarves. The first time we went, Bunny simply adored it, so I knew that this was something that needed to become part of our weekly routine. My contact with other parents of preschoolers is minimal. Since I work part time, I don’t have much time to … [Read more...]

Adventures in Lactating: Cloth Nursing Pads!

Nothing prepared me for what breastfeeding would be like. Absolutely nothing. I was told about the leaking, engorgement, and blistered nipples, but until I experienced it for myself, I had no way of understanding what those who’d gone before me were talking about. My Mom breastfed all seven of us and since I’m the oldest in our little clan, I was accustomed to seeing her whip out a boob regularly to satiate the hunger of my younger siblings. Because of my Mom’s example, it rarely, if … [Read more...]

Cloth- It’s Not Just For The Baby! Before my son was even born, we had decided to cloth diaper him. We had no interest in exposing him to the harsh chemicals and stuffy plastic diapers around the clock for the first few years of his life. The idea that he would use upwards of 3,000 diapers a year, and every one of them would end up in a landfill, was equally terrible. This decision seemed easy, but had I ever looked at my own sanitary needs in the same way? The answer, is no, I had never … [Read more...]

Four Pleasant Surprises about Cloth Diapering!

I'm what you would call a cloth-diapering newbie.  When my son was born two years ago I wasn't really aware of the concept of cloth-diapering, thinking it something of the past.  After all, we have these new fancy disposable diapers now.  Why would anyone want to go through the hassle of cloth diapers?  Over time I found out a couple friends were doing it and it piqued my interest.  As we got closer to the arrival of our second child and I faced the prospect of diapering two children … [Read more...]

I wouldn’t use disposables even if they were FREE!

I had a conversation with my sister-in-law the other day, that began with her excitement about some coupons she got for free diapers.  It was not so much off a pack, or even a buy 1 get 1 free. It was just for a free jumbo pack of diapers and/or pants I believe it stated.  She had 5 of them that someone gave to her.  I thought; good for her.  She currently has 2 children in diapers, and could use them.  She told the person that gave them to her if she had coupons like that she didn't know … [Read more...]
