Cloth Diapering at Night? Yes you can!

Cloth Diapering at Night? Yes you can!

Using cloth diapers at night can be a scary idea. Especially if have already used disposable diapers and feel secure they will not leak. Believe it or not, you can have that same security at night with cloth diapers! There are many ways to find the right night-time cloth diapering solution for your baby – even if he is a heavy wetter. Here are some night-time solutions that have proven to work for many a mama.

Add A Doubler

You can turn almost any fitted diaper into a night worthy solution just by adding diaper doublers and using a good diaper cover. There are many types of doublers that can work. You can choose from a fleece-topped doubler to keep your baby’s skin dry or a doubler made just for night use. I have used a fitted diaper and a fleece-topped hemp doubler with a wool cover quite successfully, however, I would not recommend this for a heavy wetter.

Pocket Diapers

Pocket diapers are a great choice for nights because they can be stuffed with as much extra absorption as needed for your little one. Not only that, but most pocket diapers often have fleece or suede cloth inners, which give your baby a stay dry feeling all night long.

Fleece pocket diapers are another option. If you use a Malden Mills fleece or a 100% polyester fleece, it will help to keep the moisture inside the diaper. This way you have a breathable pocket diaper. I would recommend adding a little extra absorption to this kind of pocket diaper, because fleece isn’t as waterproof as PUL.

Night-Time Fitted Diapers

There are many fitted diapers designed specifically to meet your nighttime needs. These fitteds are made with more absorbent layers than usual and have the option to add extra doublers. Bamboo and hemp are popular choices for nighttime cloth diapers because they are especially absorbent, and bamboo has been known for wicking moisture from babies’ skin.

Another choice fabric for a night-time fitted diaper is micro fiber. Micro fiber is also very absorbent and when wrapped in cotton or bamboo velour, can make for a soft and bulletproof combo.

Pocket-style fitted diapers are another great choice for nights. You get the breathability of fitted diapers with the ability to stuff as much absorbency as your baby needs. These hybrid fitted diapers are quick drying and can be a great option for your heavy wetter. You can cover fitted diapers with PUL, wool, or fleece diaper covers and have leak free nights.

Wool and Fleece Covers

Wool diaper covers are a wonderful night-time solution; choose from knitted, interlock, or jersey wool. Wool is breathable, anti-bacterial, and water-resistant. You can always give your baby’s wool diaper covers an extra lanolizing to make sure they will work through the night.

Fleece covers are a less inexpensive option if you can’t afford wool, or if your little one is allergic to wool. Fleece is also breathable; just make sure you get a 100% polyester fleece, to ensure it will help keep moisture in.

With a little experimenting, I’m sure you will find the right night-time solution. With so many cloth diapers out there, you are sure to find just the right method to help keep your child warm, dry, and comfy all night long!

I go the doubler route and it’s great! My 4 month old can go 12 hours and I have no leaks. I use the hemp babies doublers and they are fantastic.

  2. Wonderful read! I have 1 recommendation for your weblog. It looks like there are some style sheet troubles when launching several webpages in google chrome and firefox. It is functioning good in internet explorer. Probably you can double check that. I’ve just book marked this document on stumbleupon.com to get a few more website visitors to your web page.

  3. I was wondering if you ever considered changing the layout of your blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or two images. Maybe you could space it out better?
