“FEED YOUR STASH” Friday: 3 will win SWIM DIAPERS!

Lunapads Intro Kit Giveaway

I have to admit - I got a kick out of last week’s responses; words like “yuck factor” and “Aunt Flo” carried me right through the week and right up to today’s announcement of the “FEED YOUR STASH” Friday Lunapads Intro Kit WINNER!

Thanks to all of you for being so cut-to-the-chase honest about whether or not you use cloth pads and if not, why.

As always, I had a few giggles, learned a lot, and will have a special “discount” for those who didn’t win a bit further down.

Today’s winner from last Friday’s Lunapads Intro Kit Giveaway will receive one (1) Lunapads Intro Kit, complete with one each of the following Lunapad products; Maxi Pad, Maxi Liner, Maxi Wing Liner, Mini Pad, Mini WingLiner, Mini Pantyliner, Teeny Pantyliner, Bonus Mesh Laundry Bag.

Whoohoo! Now THAT is a GIVEAWAY!

THE LUNAPADS INTRO KIT GOES TO…

#30, Catia, who wrote:

“I have not yet used cloth pads, no. For some reason, I find it hard to wrap my head around having to keep around messy pads/pantiliners… but, since we cloth diaper and have to keep *that* around, I suppose this isn’t too different. And, really, it’s a smart option (both for the environment, and the savings of being able to reuse pads!)

I’ve heard good things about Luna pads!”

Congratulations Catia! Please watch for my email requesting your shipping information!

ANYONE ELSE WANT TO TRY LUNAPADS???

TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY, MAY 28th, 2009 (5-28-2009) anyone reading this blog entry can save 10% OFF all Menstrual Care products over at our online cloth diaper store. ARE YOU READY FOR TODAY’S “FEED YOUR STASH” FRIDAY GIVEAWAY!?

FEED YOUR STASH FRIDAY Imse Vimse Swim Diaper Giveaway!

Amanda’s last post, Swim Diapers - What is their purpose?, was a nice reminder that summer is here and pretty soon our babies are going to be poolside, on the beach, frolicking in kiddie pools in the backyard, and playing in sprinklers.

Which means…

THEY NEED SWIM DIAPERS!!! This week we’ll have THREE (3) Winners! Each winner will receive ONE (1) Imse Vimse Swim Diaper.

Amanda and her daughter are big fans of our Imse Vimse Swim Diaper, swim diapers made to pull-on like underwear, but bound at the legs and waist with a soft lycra to protect baby’s skin from irritation.

Trim fitting, bikini-style Imse Vimse Swim Diapers can be worn under a swimsuit or worn alone; they snap on one side to allow for quick and easy changes if an accident occurs.

The rules on this giveaway are same as the last - you have up to two chances to enter!

PLAYING RULES:

  • Everyone over the age of 18 is eligible to play.
  • Only one entry per household.
  • For those without blogs, simply answer the question below in the comment section for your chance to win.
  • FOR THOSE WITH BLOGS: You have TWO CHANCES TO WIN! First, comment NOW on this post with your answer. Then, come back and comment again, this time pasting in a direct link to your blog post about this contest. That’s right - if you give your readers a heads-up, you get TWO ENTRIES!
  • Come back next Friday morning to see if you won!

AND THE QUESTION IS…

What is your most embarrassing pool experience with a child?

Should I admit mine involves floaties? Eeek!…we’re not talking the plastic kind that go around your children’s arms.

  1. I’ve had my daughter in a Mommy-and-Me swim class for the past few months. She’s about 9 months old now and she’s not shy about letting me know when it’s time to nurse. I constantly have to keep her from grabbing my boobs and pulling down my top while we’re in the pool. Well, one time she was successful. She pulled down my top, exposing my breast, and I dang near drowned my own child trying to cover back up. I don’t think any of the other moms or kids saw me, but I can’t speak for the people who walk outside and peep through the window at all the cute, swimming babies (the swim school is in a shopping center). Good times.

  2. Since my son is just one year old and we didn’t really go to the pool last summer, we don’t have any embarrassing child/pool stories yet and I’m not looking to collect any :). I really want to try reusable swim diapers because throwing out the disposable ones makes me cringe!

  3. Wow, Denise has it rough. We haven’t gone to the pool yet, although my hubs will be sure to coax me into it this summer (in the midwest its still considered too cold for a few more weeks) so baby can get used to the water. Having a swim diaper will make it easy as pie!

  8. Okay, an embarrassing moment in a pool with a child….I haven’t had one since we haven’t taken my daughter into a pool yet. She’s only 5 months old. Does doodling in her bath count? :-) I have to say, my friends’ kids have all been very well behaved.

  9. So wish I had a funny story to share about pool time. My daughter (almost 5) and son (almost 2) love being in the pool, and with all the time we spend there I’m sure at some point we’ll have some kind of story to tell.

  16. Yeah! I didn’t even know there were swim diapers!! I am new to CD. I hope I win, I really hate taking those huggies soggy swim diapers off!! Anyways, my baby is 7 months old and I just started swimming with him a month ago, so no embarrassing moments yet!! :)
    Thanks,

  17. I’m like most of the folks who’ve already replied–no embarrassing stories because of our little one–but it’s a little like Denise’s. I was skipping driver’s ed in high school to sun bathe with friends. In our small town, we weren’t hard to find and my male teacher came to the pool looking for me. Wouldn’t have been so bad if the bathing suit I was wearing wasn’t too small and if I hadn’t nearly lost it as he walked up. I was embarrassed then, but thinking back now, it gives me the creeps!

  18. Well, this is my first summer having my baby (8.5 months old), but I’m sure there will be lots of embarrassing stories to come.

  19. My little boy also loves to nurse and any time he sees any part of my breast, he can’t think of anything else. We were in the pool and he pulled the little spaghetti strap part so hard that it unhooked in the back. Luckily, nothing was exposed, but we had to run to the bathroom and re-hook it quickly. Because of that, I went out and got a speedo-type suit that he can’t pull apart!

  20. We were at a friend’s house swimming when we allowed my three-year-old (at the time) to go to the bathroom in a corner of the lawn - rather than drying her off and stripping her down inside. It was all fine, until she did the same thing at a hotel pool - oops!

  21. No embarrassing moments with my little one (4 months) *yet* but I’ve had plenty of embarrassing swimming moments myself! A classic: the “I-shaved-my-legs-and-left-a-strip-of-hair-running-the-length-of-my-full-leg” moment. Especially if you hadn’t shaved in a while before then! =D

But I anticipate many fun moments with the wee one this summer- although, hopefully, with a swim diaper they won’t be “embarrassing” ones!

  25. The only embarrassing thing I can think of happening at the pool is when my niece pulled my bathing suit down and flashed quite a few innocent bystanders! Fortunately it didn’t come all the way down, but I was sure embarrassed by it!

  26. My then-two-year-old son told me he had to pee. I pulled him out of the baby pool as fast as I could, but not fast enough. He dropped his drawers and peed right on the concrete, right in front of all the other moms.

  27. I dont have any embarassing pool stories as a mom yet, but a couple of years ago I worked at a summer camp. I dreaded swimming days! In a 2 week period we had floaters EVERY TIME we went swimming! Eww!!

  29. My embarrassing moment wasn’t that bad, I have to admit. I have one of those halter suits that never want to stay closed - and of course I’ve nearly flashed the other parents in the swim classes several times. My daughter (age 2) nearly gave me a heart attack when she decided to jump in to the 4 ft deep pool while I was busy trying to cover up. We all recovered fine, but needless to say, I’m in the market for a new swimsuit!

  31. My most embarrassing pool experience? I was helping out a group of school-age special needs kids who were all about their bodies and the water - I’ll leave it at that. It’s a good thing we had enough adults to help out that day!

  32. After swim lessons, I always change my son right on the public patio so he doesn’t have to sit in the soggy suit for the drive home. I guess now that he’s 5 years old, I can’t do that anymore. Otherwise, HE will have an embarrassing story to tell! My 4 month old son can’t wait to go swimming with his big brother this summer!

  33. We just came back from an amazing trip to Jamaica. It was our first time traveling with Gavin (10 months) and his first time in the ocean. A friend gave us a pack of Little Swimmers that they hadn’t used so we thought we were set. So one lovely day we’re hanging out in the ocean, when my mom points to a piece of orange substance floating in the water. We then notice several more particles of all different shapes and sizes surrounding us. The area around us cleared quite quickly as people realized that they were swimming in my son’s feces! Awkward!

  34. Well mine wouldn’t have been fixed with a swim diaper - lol! My most embarrassing pool experience with a child was when my 3yo DD was taking swim lessons at the pool and was so bad during one of her lessons that the teacher gave her a time out! Did I mention my little monster is very strong-willed?!

  36. My youngest daughter had a horrible
dirty diaper while swimming at Wet and Wild, far from the restrooms. My sister in
law acted very calm (like this happens all
the time). Years later she admits how
awful it was. I’ll be more careful with
my 18 month old grand-daughter who loves to swim in the community pool. Swim
diaper will be on her this summer.

  37. Does a child in the womb count? When I was pregnant with my first born, I utterly refused to buy maternity clothes. I was seven months pregnant and my husband and I decided to go swimming at the closest park pool. Since the swimming suit (one piece) would not fit me anymore, I was having a hard time keeping it from coming undone. I kept pulling the straps at my neck, pulling at the clotch, pulling the straps, pulling at the crotch, until “snap”, the neck ties tore completely off the suit as I was doing a back stroke. Then from out of no where, I heard the lifeguard scream, lady, no exposing of the breasts in the water!!! Fun Times, right?

  40. Swim diapers have definitely helped avoid those embarrassing moments! It has kept some bad messes contained but of course there is always the problem of removing that tight diaper without releasing the contents and making a big mess on the child - that is the more awkward time for me - where to do that and clean up when the child is already wet…

  41. When my son was two we went to swim lessons every week and he was having a great time - he loved to swim and then one day out of nowhere he started throwing a fit and refusing to get in the water. He got over it a few weeks later but I was so embarrassed.

  42. My daughter is 8 months old, so we haven’t had a chance to do any kiddie pool play yet. We do go to our neighbors and their daughter likes to have “swim suit tub time” and we come over for the fun sometimes. Even with 3 little girls in the tub I haven’t witnessed any embarrassing moments. A lot of cute ones though…

  50. We have not really had a lot of pool experiences with our children beyond the blow up pool in our backyard. So I don’t have any embarrassing stories to share at this point. 54. My little girl is also too young to have any bad stories since she is just three months old. We’re lucky enough to have a stream fed pool in the area so I can take her “swimming” this summer but I think I have to go with a cloth swim diaper as I have yet to see anyone make a disposable in her size. We cloth diaper so this isn’t an issue. I just find it a bit odd. I figure infants are probably spending time in back yard kiddie pools if nothing else.

  64. Our embarrassing moment happened in a ‘fountain’ area, not really a pool. We were at Disney back in Dec and didn’t have a swim diaper, so we just left my son in his PF and cover. He was sitting close to one of the fountains and my oldest daughter came over and said “Mom, I think bubby pooped” as I look down to see yellow water draining from his diaper. Sure enough…..luckily there weren’t any children around him, but a few of the parents did see!

  71. When my son was about 2 1/2 I went to the public pool. He was having a great time on the shallow end, but the sun was getting to him. I didn’t want him wearing a huge, water logged diaper so I put him only in a pair of shorts. Other mothers had done that, and it seemed like no big deal. (he’s 16 now btw)well, this was really his first trip to the pool and the ice cream he’d eaten a couple hours before didn’t mix well with the hot sunshine (even with his SPF lotion!) and the chlorinated water that he occasionally swallowed when splashing around. He began to rub his belly, and I could swear he was turning green. Now it was a hot day and the pool had only been open about an hour and was filling up fast. But that was soon to change, lol. Before I could snatch him outta the pool he let it rip, first he power puked into the pool, and then if that wasn’t enough he decided some power poops would be fun as well. After he let it rip into the water, he suddenly felt better. Unfortunately, within 5 minutes he’d managed to shut down the pool for the day as they had to deal with filtering his deposits out of the water. I made a very quick exit, and didn’t bring him there again until he was 9!

  73. This is my first time on this site, after seeing the link on a friend’s blog. I haven’t had any embarrasing moments with my little tadpole princess (turning 2 in August), and we would like to keep it that way, LOL. These swim diapers sound like they will be a great addition to our travel bag!!!!

  74. When my Daughter was 9 months old (she is 3 now) we were at our local pool, I had her in a disposible swim diaper, and she went poop, no big deal, excepet it was our last diaper. Thinking that she was done with her buissness, I put her in her bathing suit, sans diaper and we went swimming. BIG MISTAKE!!! She had diahreah SOOOO bad, it was all over her, me and the pool. It got shut down and we never went back….. I am not making the same mistake with my son (8 months old now) I am going to get a swim diaper!!!!

  76. No super great stories to share with my 14 month old, but I’m sure we’ll have one this summer! Last summer we did get in a the pool some, but the biggest disaster was just being splashed by all the older cousins. :-)

  77. At the time we had 2 boys and a girl. We were at a pool when my 4 year old daughter couldn’t understand why the boys got to only wear trunks and she had to wear a suit. So she, being the cleaver little girl she was, took off her suit and put on her underpants then started to strut around the pool telling all the kids there she could wear what boys wore. She wasn’t happy with the responces she got so she took off her underpants and threw them at one of the boys. All of this happened before I could get around to her with a nursing child. Life can sure come at you fast!

  78. Okay, here it goes… DD#2 was about 1 1/2 & we were at an indoor waterpark. She was on her way down a slide when I saw a brown streak trailing behind (no pun intended! LOL) her… YES, her SPOSIE swim dipe had leaked poop all down the slide!!! I about fell over on the spot… I quickly grabbed a pool towel & casually wiped the slide down… I am pretty sure nobody else noticed, but I was mortified!!! I also used a few sposie wipes & some hand sanitizer to clean it up some more… dumb sposie swim diaper!! LOL

  79. Our son LOVES to be in the water! We didn’t have him in the pool much last summer as he’s just 14 months old now but we took him to an indoor pool a couple of times this winter and he loved it! - and he loves bath time every night! Thankfully I have no stories to report yet though :)

  82. Last year on vacation my 9mo old, who had on a disposable swim diaper, and I spent a good two hours in the pool. When we got out, I thought it would be cute to get a nudie booty shot of her standing up looking at the ocean. Well I went to take off the diaper and out the poo falls - ALL OVER THE PLACE.

  84. We’ve had plenty of those moments!
We’ve had swimsuit top accidents~~ whoever thought strapless swimsuits were a good idea??? LOL The moment that takes the cake was when we dipped our 13 month old’s diapered bottom into the public pool by accident while trying to dip only his legs in, and the lifeguard blew the whistle. They closed the pool because of it….”health reasons”. Boy did we feel dumb! :(

  85. Believe it or not. We haven’t had any embarrassing moments at the pool. Mainly because we don’t really go in the pool. We live in Jersey so we just go to the shore. Now you know if we ever go to a pool, something’s going to happen :)

  87. I haven’t used these yet, but they must be better than the disposible swim diapers…they don’t work at all!

  88. OMG! The comments above are so funny! My son is only 8 weeks old, so we haven’t had any embarassing pool stories yet, but I am sure we will. I have been looking for a good swim diaper so I can get him in the water. I imagine I will soon have all of the fun experiences described in the above comments! My own personal embarasment is when I jumped in the pool and my top fell off - in front of the boys soccer team!!
