  1. I’ve never used pocket diapers, but I don’t seem to be affected by the ickiness of cleaning cloth diapers.

  14. I don’t use pocket diapers, I use the flip system and Gro Baby, and pulling the liner from those doesn’t bother me a bit!

  15. It can get pretty messy at times having to pull out the liner. Not too much of a pain hunting down matching liners; more of a pain teaching hubby which covers go with which liners. :)

  26. it can get icky when you get the big poop explosions but I don’t mind. Using disposables with that big explosion is just as icky because it is all over the clothes as well.
Inserts are pretty interchangeable for the most part too. A lot of them are shaped and styled the same and the ones that aren’t have a pretty noticeable difference.

  32. I am currently expecting. I would think you would get used to the ick factor, removing the inserts. I could definitely see if you had a lot of different brands of diapers, hunting down the correct insert would be a pain (kind of like matching socks, which I hate).

  48. I don’t find removing the insert from a pocket diaper is that bad if I remove it right when I take the diaper off. I’ve gotten pretty good at shaking it out with touching it :) Sometimes my husband or day care provider will forget though and reaching into the diaper that is already in the pail or wet bag really does gross me out!

Finding the matching liner isn’t that big of a deal for me.

  51. It’s a little icky. Especially now that my daughter has started solids. Oiy! As for inserts, I’m guilty of mixing and matching. I have mostly Bum Genius 3.0 and Happy Heinys. I double their inserts with my mom’s homemade soakers, and when I’m stuffing I don’t pay too much attention to what goes in what, as long as each one gets an insert and a soaker.

  58. We have a lot of pockets and it isn’t fun pulling the stuffing out, but it isn’t enough to make me stop using them. What is making me switch to more of the AIO types is the annoyance I get with hunting down and stuffing them after they’ve been washed.

  60. I don’t have the “ick” factor at all. Most of my pocket diapers are BG, so I only have a few other diapers that I have to match different inserts to, so it’s not much of a problem.

  76. It depends on how full the diaper is, if you know what I mean as far as the ick goes! Usually, though, not. However, I only have 3 ‘different’ diapers, and one insert is close to the others, but has a big tag on it, so it’s distinguishable if you look, and the other 2 are shaped differently and have boosters that attach by snaps, so they are easy to pick apart. If I had a dozen different dipes, I’d go nuts trying to make them all match up! I LOVE the idea of these, they seem like the perfect solution as I LOVED my AIOs! Now to talk my hubby into a few! Sigh!

  82. I really only find pocket CDs to be icky when the poo goes to the top of the back. Although it isn’t a big deal to match inserts and diapers it would of course be easier not to.

  83. I think its only bothered me maybe 2 or 3 times. And sometimes it becomes a pain when looking for the right inserts. Probably only because I have lots of different pocket diapers.

It doesn’t bother me to match up the inserts. I have lots of extra BG one-size inserts so if one is missing- I can still stuff it. But having the insert attached, would make life easier :)

  105. It is only icky when my son has a pretty bad blowout, but in that case the entire diaper is pretty icky. The only other time it’s kind of icky is when he is completely soaked and it feels like i dipped the soaker in a bucket. We don’t have any trouble matching the soakers because all our diapers use similar soakers, with the exception of 3 which have colored soakers.

  119. I remove the insert after I take it off. It just seems less icky than after it’s been sitting in the bag for a few days. Most of my liners are the same or close to it. So that doesn’t really bother me.

  126. I don’t mind it or think it is too messy the vast majority of the time. It definitely helps that we have a diaper sprayer, though.

I don’t love stuffing pockets, but for the convenience factor, they can’t be beat!

  128. I wouldn’t say I have a big ick factor but it is nice not to have to touch or dig for a urine soaked insert.

I mix and match my liners. I LOVE hemp liners since they are super thin, so sometimes I just use those.

  129. I don’t mind the ick factor when pulling inserts from the laundry — I usually just use a wipe to “grab” it if it’s really gross. Or I just leave the insert in the diaper and separate them all out as I dump them in the wash, so I only have to get my hands gross once.

hunting down a matching liner is no biggie for me, since I put them all together straight out of the laundry so they’re ready to go when we need them. no different than matching up socks. :)

  135. There isn’t an ick factor, it’s not a big deal. Well, I guess when he has stomach issues it has been a bit gross, but that’s only happened once or twice and it would be gross in any type of diaper!
I just use prefolds because the inserts are more of a pain to clean and keep straight.

  144. We use either a cloth or flushable liner with the diaper that catches most of the poop really well. I usually pull out the inserts right away, which for some reason isn’t as gross as after it’s been sitting for a few days.

  158. I don’t get grossed about this, but my husband does sometimes (more with spraying off prefolds than with fishing out liners). I find I can easily remove the insert by touching only a corner, which is usually just wet. I only use FB pocket dipes, so I only have one type of insert, but I like laundry and the “hunt” doesn’t bother me.

  197. I use bumgenius diapers. I put the insert in so the tag is on the side of the diaper that opens (where the pocket is). That way, after the diaper is used, I can pull out the insert by pulling on the tag. Minimizes the ick factor, although it’s not really that icky to me in the first place. After all, it’s my baby’s pee/poop! :-)

  201. I just started using cloth diapers this week. I’m using pocket diapers, and the only problem I am having is my daughter is a frequent pooper, and her poops tend to be messy, which gets all over the diaper covers, which are supposed to be re-used from diaper to diaper. I am now just diapering part time, waiting on the rest of my shipment, so I am still heavily rely on regular diapers. Any suggestions?

  260. It doesn’t bother me much to remove inserts from pocket diapers when they are wet. When the diaper has been messed in… that’s a different story. I generally just get it over with and then wash my hands well. As to matching diapers and inserts, I use prefolds to stuff my pocket diapers with so there is generally no matching involved. It’s more time-consuming to find the matching snap-in liners for my all-in-two diapers (and even that isn’t too difficult).

  270. If you use Pocket Diapers, do you have a big “ick” factor when you have to pull out the insert for the laundry? **My favorite “go to diapers” are Pocket Change and the inserts come out in the wash so I don’t have to pull them out, lol :) While preggers, hubby gets poopy diaper duty…so I haven’t had the “ick factor” for a while, lol ;-)

How much of an inconvenience is it to hunt down the “matching” liner? **None at all — it’s second nature when I’m stuffing now.

  304. I am making my own cloth diapers, and one solution to the mismatched liners is to sew just one end of the liner to the diaper, so that it can be pulled out, but the drying time is faster and the liner is always with the correct diaper. I haven’t tried them yet (don’t have enough made yet to start) but it does gross me out to think about pulling out the full soaker pad.

  315. The “ick” factor can be pretty bad when there is a poop-splosion. We use disposable liners so it doesn’t happen too often.

Matching the liners is only a problem for my husband ;)

  319. It isn’t that bad to take the insert out. After 3 kids *4th on the way* it just doesn’t seem like that big of a deal.

As far as finding the insert, I have only ever had the same type of diapers so it wasn’t an issue. Now that with this coming baby having several types, it might be an issue.

  337. It’s only really bothered me a couple of times. Most of the time when we are home we use prefolds and use the pocket diapers when we go out. So, she hasn’t pooped in the pocket dipes nearly as often as the prefolds. I don’t find it an inconvenience at all to match up the insert with the diaper after laundry is done and we have a few different brands of pocket dipes. I just stuff them all right away after the laundry is done.

It is sometimes a pain hunting down the correct liner b/c we have so many different diapers so, now I just use whatever liner fits and works. Most of them are interchangeable I’ve come to realize. Makes it much easier for me. :)
