I have not yet seen a difference between having gussets and not having gussets for AIO’s…however when using prefolds with covers I have noticed that the brands with gussets tend to work better. It could be a user error thing, but I like our covers with the gussets better.

I guess I have to say no because I don’t think any of my diapers have them , although I loved the idea when I have seen them on other diapers!
For covers , they were a must when using prefolds since they leaked just about everytime ! But I don’t think they would be needed with fitteds..
I have never used a cloth diaper with air gussets and really didn’t know much about them.

I agree with some of the others that with newborns and prefold/covers (the only way to go for that), the gussets rock. If you’re looking for pocket diapers or AIOs later on, and plan on having another baby, then you might check for gussets on those so you can use them in combo with the prefolds as well. Then again, I had a bf baby with very little exposure to outside germs, so we haven’t had much issue with ‘bad’ diapers otherwise, so with a kid in day care, well you might consider it more if you think there is more sickness going around. Just my 2 cents.

When my son was younger, it was more important than it is now; however, it is still nice to have them when he gets sick! I haven’t found leg gussets to stop leaks any differently than those without.

Gussets are definitely a bonus when I am looking for cloth diapers.
I was drawn to the Rumparooz diapers because of their extra gusset and their claim for being leak proof! I have been using them for 2 months now and have not had a single leak (most of the time the poop doesn’t get past even the first gusset). I like the double gussets!

If using prefolds with a young infant I would say yes, they tend to keep everything in, but as they get older and less “runny” they are not as important.
I haven’t used any diapers yet but it sounds like gussets are important for breastfed newborns.
Our first child is due in 3 weeks (eek!) so I can’t speak from experience but it just seems logical that gussets would make for a better fit (and therefore less leaks, yay!)

I’m not actually sure if I completely understand what a gusset is. I have FB and Rumparooz diapers, and I don’t have leaks. I did with the FB in the beginning, but the small sized diaper was a little big in the legs on my tiny girl. I’ve never had rashes and leaks aren’t a huge problem (you can’t ever eliminate them totally) but I do like the double gussets on my rumparooz – they make me feel secure.
