I have not yet seen a difference between having gussets and not having gussets for AIO’s…however when using prefolds with covers I have noticed that the brands with gussets tend to work better. It could be a user error thing, but I like our covers with the gussets better.

I guess I have to say no because I don’t think any of my diapers have them , although I loved the idea when I have seen them on other diapers!

For covers , they were a must when using prefolds since they leaked just about everytime ! But I don’t think they would be needed with fitteds..

  31. Jill says:

I agree with some of the others that with newborns and prefold/covers (the only way to go for that), the gussets rock. If you’re looking for pocket diapers or AIOs later on, and plan on having another baby, then you might check for gussets on those so you can use them in combo with the prefolds as well. Then again, I had a bf baby with very little exposure to outside germs, so we haven’t had much issue with ‘bad’ diapers otherwise, so with a kid in day care, well you might consider it more if you think there is more sickness going around. Just my 2 cents.

  354. I’m not actually sure if I completely understand what a gusset is. I have FB and Rumparooz diapers, and I don’t have leaks. I did with the FB in the beginning, but the small sized diaper was a little big in the legs on my tiny girl. I’ve never had rashes and leaks aren’t a huge problem (you can’t ever eliminate them totally) but I do like the double gussets on my rumparooz – they make me feel secure.
