Kim Ormsby of The Natural Baby Company won the Small Business Association’s 2010 Montana Small Business Person of the Year award.
Ormsby was recognized recently at a celebration sponsored by the regional US Small Business Administration office among a number of other Montana outstanding businesses.
Ormsby, the CEO and President of The Natural Baby Company, founded the company in 2003; originally it was named “Montana’s Diaper Store”. A small, online cloth diaper retail store, she operated from the laundry room in her home. As the store grew, she renamed it “The Natural Baby Company”, which is what it is named today.
Seeing the need for an alternative to petroleum and chemically-based disposable diapers, Ormsby began working on a cloth diaper design in 2009; the diaper was initially called Gro Baby – now the GroVia cloth diaper line.
A compostable cloth diaper sewn from natural, unbleached materials, the GroVia line of diapers sell about 4,000 cloth diapers per month, worldwide. The introduction of GroVia “propelled the company into a multi-million dollar business” selling to more than 290 retailers worldwide.
Ormsby continues to design and manufacture a variety of cloth diapering products, including the Wonder Wrap One Size Diaper Cover, Kiwi Pie One Size Diaper, GroVia One Size Cloth Diaper, and the GroVia All In One Diaper, as well as many cloth diapering accessories.
Ormsby was named SBA’s 2010 Small Business Person of the Year because of her creativity and commitment to serve parents by offering environmentally sensitive products.
