A Different Kind of Green

differentkindofgreen

A wonderfully brilliant friend of mine recently welcomed his very first child into the world - a gorgeous little boy who came out of the womb smiling and seems to be embracing the world with the same gusto as his dad. At a dinner recently, I found myself marveling at their environmentally friendly commitment as we feasted on vegetables from their own garden and washed it down with a delightful home brewed beer. Young Phillip was asleep on a quilt made from his grandfather's old work shirts … [Read more...]

Disposables to Cloth

When I was growing up I thought the idea of cloth diapering was silly and disgusting. Seriously, why would anyone want to deal with the poo scraping, toilet swishing, diaper pinning, stomach turning stink, cloth diaper washing, and all of the work that comes from cloth diapering? Why not just use disposables and throw the nastiness away? Not have to deal with scraping poo (can I say EWW…) and washing diapers. All you had to do was wrap the nasty poo up inside of the diaper and toss it … [Read more...]

Going Coverless

If you often frequent cloth diapering or natural parenting forums, you may have heard this term quite a bit. So what is going coverless? It may sound like a strange idea, but there are actually benefits for your child to go coverless. I have heard many a mama ask questions about how to do it and thought I could help answer some of those questions for you. How do you go … [Read more...]

A Cloth Diapering Dictionary

Happy Heiny's One Size Pocket Diaper

If you are new to cloth diapering and happen upon one of the many websites that sell cloth diapers, then all the titles, monikers, and nicknames can be quite confusing - I should know! I came into cloth diapering pretty much on my own; there were no brick and mortar diaper stores near me so I had no one to talk to about, and no opportunities to see, these wonderful cloth diapers in person. A friend gave me three pocket diapers to start my stash and so pockets were all I "knew". Since it … [Read more...]

Cloth Diapers on Etsy

I've frequented Etsy, the amazing community of online crafters, for several years now. Why it didn't connect with me that this place "to buy & sell all things handmade" might just produce some of the most creative WAHM (Work-at-Home-Mom) cloth diapers, cloth diaper covers and cloth diapering accessories is a testimony to how my brain works. For me, Etsy is the place to find original pieces of handmade jewelry, paper products, or bit of whimsy, but cloth diapers? Nope, hadn't looked … [Read more...]

Kissaluvs Marvels OS Fitted Diapers: A Review

I have been cloth diapering for three months. When I was expecting our first child (born November 5, 2009) I started researching cloth diapers. My main reason was the money factor – I wanted to save some! I remember the cloth diapers that my mom used on us kids. You know…the old flat prefolds with the plastic pants. That’s what I thought I would be using. Wow! Have cloth diapers evolved or what?!? I started reading reviews on The Diaper Pin. I visited websites. I devoured … [Read more...]
