Have you see the Electrolux SHINE washing machine launched at the Eurocucina 2010 – International Kitchen Furniture Trade Show in Milan? I know, I know…I too wondered why a washing machine was launched at a kitchen trade show, but once you see it you’ll understand.
It is HARDLY your typical, run-of-the-mill Maytag!
Designed to meet the needs of shrinking domestic spaces, the SHINE can either be mounted on a wall, or tucked in as a freestanding unit under your bathroom cupboards.
Yes, it is THAT small.
But hey, it just goes to show that where there’s a will there’s a way; people CAN cloth diaper their babies no matter how little space they have!
The circular light on the face of the washing machine serves as a visual timer; when you begin washing the ring lights up and moves clockwise through the cycle. When the light has come full-circle your load is done.
A small display above the door allows you to program the unit, depending on the type of garment you need to wash.
I’m all for space efficiency, but I’ve yet to read just how much these suckers can hold. A pair of jeans and a t-shirt? A full load of underwear? Five or six cloth diaper units?
I think I’ll hold tight to my Maytag HE washer for now. :)

Yeah, you might have to do two or three diaper washes a day with that thing! Yikes! I can see how it would be nice if you live in a small space, though!

That looks very cool and expensive, but I’d wonder how many items it could hold, too. Not very many, I am guessing. When I was in college I did a study abroad program in Germany and boarded with a woman who wouldn’t let me near her washing machine. I learned that they don’t dirty half as many clothes as Americans each week and their washing machines are much more technologically advanced than ours, too. I couldn’t have figured it out if I wanted to. She was always amazed at how many dirty clothes I had each week so, maybe this washing machine is ideal for Europeans who really don’t have as much to wash, but typical Americans wouldn’t know what to do with that contraption. lol
