Eco-Friendly Detergent for Cloth Diapers

I have finally found an eco-friendly laundry detergent that works SO well on my cloth diapers and I just have to share. This stuff is amazing and I’ve been using it on all of my laundry, not just diapers! It has a great natural scent, doesn’t irritate my baby’s skin, and is environmentally friendly.

If you are in some of the big Facebook cloth diapering groups, you'll know that people are always looking for plant based detergents but often have a hard time using them with cloth diapers. Some detergent options just don't get the diapers clean enough. That's why I was pleasantly surprised when I tried this and found that it left my diapers just as clean as other detergents! In fact, I soon found that I liked it better than other options! I'll share the brand with you and briefly outline my wash routine. A more detailed overview for washing cloth diapers can be found here. I'll also share a discount code that you can use to try this great product.

Dinobi is a totally plant based detergent that has only four ingredients. I love that it comes in a bottle that is easy to clean and recycle when empty. It’s also very easy to use and was created with the intention of cleaning cloth diapers.

It is a concentrated formula, meaning that a little bit goes a long way. It comes with a measuring device for 1 ounce. It seems so much smaller than the average detergent cap. You really use the tiniest amount and the diapers still get clean!

Dinobi recommends using 1 ounce for small to medium loads and 1 and 1/2 to 2 ounces for large loads. When I wash my diapers with it, I treat it as a large load (it normally is) since diapers are so dirty and definitely need to be cleaned well. Here’s an outline of how I use it:

  1. Toss in all dirty diapers and 1 ounce of Dinobi for a prewash. Use warm or hot water and use the shortest “heavily soiled” setting on the machine.

  2. When prewash is done, open the washer and put in Calgon as a water softener (if you have hard water). Then add 2 ounces of Dinobi to this wash. Run the machine with hot water and on the longest “heavily soiled” setting.

  3. Remove diapers. Hang dry anything with PUL or TPU; everything else goes in the dryer.

  4. Remove from the dryer and notice how clean your laundry smells!

Keep in mind that I do have hard water! If you have soft water you wont need nearly as much detergent. For more information on washing routines make sure you check out this previous post.

If you are interested in trying this great detergent option, you might notice it isn’t currently available on Dinobi’s website (though you can preorder from them!) but it is available from Pannolino Bambino. You can use code CDBLOG for a discount on your order.

I will be doing a giveaway on Instagram (@clothdiaperblog) next week and one lucky person will win the sample size pictured above. It is perfect for trying this detergent once or using it as a stain remover (it works great) so make sure you are following me and have your notifications on so you don’t miss this opportunity!
